Text messaging is a popular method of sending messages amid the rise of online messaging platforms like WhatsApp. Billions of messages are sent in the world every day using default messaging apps. If you have an Android phone, you’re probably using or heard of Google Messages, a built-in messaging app for Android. Many Android phone companies have their own messaging apps as a default on their phones. Like If you have a Samsung device, you’ve probably seen how it comes with two pre-installed apps: Google Messages and Samsung Messages. If you want to know which is the best SMS app for android? Then we did a comparison in this article between Google Messages and Samsung Messages to see which is the best Android messaging app.
iMessage vs Android Messages
iMessege is an messeging app built-in on iPhones. Apple doesn’t allow changes to its default apps and iPhone users are stuck in Apple’s ecosystem. Interestingly, this negative attitude didn’t cause Apple to lose users instead, it gained more users who wanted a unique experience. Android is quite an open-source platform, its users can change default apps to whatever they want. But now Google is also pushing its own apps to Android phones. You may have noticed that the latest Android devices are coming with Google Messaging and Call apps as default apps.
Google Messages vs Samsung Messages
Now let’s talk about two popular Android messaging apps: Google Messages and Samsung Messages. The Play Store lets you install Google Messages on any Android phone, including Samsung devices, but Samsung Messages is only available on Samsung devices. Both apps perform the same function but differ in many ways.
User Interfaces
The user interfaces of Google Messages and Samsung Messages are similar in appearance, but the functionality is slightly different. You can see the name, number, and a snippet of the most recent text in the conversation in both applications. The messages are arranged with the oldest at the bottom and the newest at the top. Samsung Messages makes chatting easy as the chats show from the bottom half of the screen. The top half shows how many unread messages there are. Samsung Messages displays upcoming events, deals, and offers under its cards tab while Google Messages categorizes its chats into Personal, OTP, Offer, and Transactional. The main difference between these apps is that Samsung displays two while Google Message displays one line of recent text.
Miscellaneous features
Both apps allow users to send emojis, stickers, audio, videos, photos, GIFs, and notes. You can also share your contacts, and location, schedule messages, add subject lines, etc. on both apps. We don’t know why but you cannot send stickers with Google’s Gboard, Samsung forces users to use Samsung Keyboard to send stickers. Moreover, Samsung allows you to send quick replies like “What’s up?”, “How’s it going?” and more. While Google has its Smart Reply feature that suggests common responses and related actions like suggesting an event on messages you receive. You can also schedule messages to be sent later in Google Messages.
Samsung Messages has a recycle bin that stores messages that have been deleted in the last 30 days, and you can retrieve them in this time span. Also, it offers the ability to customize the chat background and bubbles which google doesn’t. Google has its Assistant backing Google Messages that help you with voice messages and other interesting things.
The search function in both messaging apps is very simple. You can search the main messages page to find chats, contacts, or messages that contain your search phrase.
RCS
Both messaging apps support Rich Communication Services (RCS) that allow users to send messages over the internet. Samsung Messages lets you send messages over the Internet and the same does the Google Messages chat feature, which lets users send, receive, react to messages, and much more.
Google Messages and Samsung Messages both are great messaging apps on android and users should not be confused about this topic. But I think Google Messaging should be the universal messaging app for Android in order to compete with Apple’s iMessage. Let us know what do you think about both apps in the comments.
