Today phones are the main source of entertainment, the cameras of mobile phones are capable of shooting high-quality videos, and the ability to watch the phone content on a large TV takes the experience to the next level for users. Nowadays, most people have a smart TV and sometimes they see something on their phone and want to share it with the class or watch it on the big screen. You can connect the phone to a TV through the built-in cast feature or through a third-party app. There are many ways to connect to your TV, let’s learn how to connect your Android phone to your smart TV.
Default Connection Option
Android Mirror Casting feature is available on every android phone since version 5 which allows users to mirror the phone’s screen to a TV. If the TV supports Miracast, you can connect to your TV wirelessly. Miracast is a wireless transmission specially designed to connect to a mobile device. Most modern smart TVs have this feature built-in.
In order to connect, you can go to phone settings and look for Connectivity settings, there you can find Cast in Xiaomi or SmartView in Samsung phones (different brands use different names). You can turn on this option and in a moment you should see the list of nearby devices and the name of your Smart TV on the screen. Click on the name of the TV and your phone will be connected and your TV will start showing your phone’s screen.
Screen Mirroring Devices
All major devices like Chromecast, Roku, Apple TV, Fire, etc. have their own apps to interact with them. Make sure the device you want to connect to your phone is on the same Wi-Fi network. You can try out a few other apps from the play store to see which one provides the best experience for you. Most Android screen mirroring apps are developed to interact with external streaming boxes, not directly with your TV.
If your TV doesn’t have Miracast or Chromecast, you can still connect to it wirelessly using a Chromecast dongle or any wireless display connector but remember not all are equal in quality. You can simply plug a wireless display adapter into your TV’s HDMI port and you’ll be ready to go. Some wireless adapters have specific Wi-Fi and software requirements, so be sure to check which one best suits your Wi-Fi needs.
DLNA Feature
If your TV has an internet connection and supports DLNA which is a streaming protocol that lets you share audio and videos to your TV. This includes many things you want to stream from your phone to your TV but can’t, like streaming Netflix. There are many apps on the Google play store that let you play your videos, music, photos, etc to your TV using DLNA tech. Many smart TVs have their own apps that allow you to easily cast your phone media. Android screen mirroring works best if your phone and TV are from the same brand.
