A few months ago, the ability to search for nearby locations using augmented reality was previewed by Google. Augmented Reality search in Google Live View Maps is coming next week. The update introduces a more immersive experience and gives the ability to better understand neighborhoods, eco-friendly routing, and a new Live View option that allows users to search for different points of interest, while the Google Lens multi-search feature lets you take a photo of food and see where you can find this food nearby. Now you can search areas that support Google augmented reality on your phone using the Google app. Go to the Google Maps app on your phone, tap the camera icon, and zoom in to see a live view of nearby objects.

Google Maps with Live View Search

Live View previously allowed users to navigate streets, and see the world around them with their phone’s camera. Now Live View Search, users can now get more helpful information on-screen when looking at locations using AR. This means you don’t need to do any further searching to see a place rating, opening hours, price, and how busy it is. If you turn on live view using the camera icon in the Google Maps search bar, the bottom page will show you to find a place near you. You can now mark your points of interest with colored buttons on the flat map view. Live search is now available for Android and iOS users in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, London, Tokyo, and Paris.

You think of a dish or have a picture of it and it looks delicious and you want to try it. Then head to Google Lens’s multi-search feature which allows you to add text queries or analyze images, snap a photo or screenshot of food, and then type the ‘near me’ to quickly find a nearby store/location that sells it. This feature is available now and works in American English. Moreover, you can use this feature to search for specific foods. Google will show you nearby places to find a dish, also it will give you more information related to the dish like prices, ingredients, etc.

Moreover, Google says the new AR feature makes shopping easier and helps you find the right foundation by improving accuracy and adding 148 models based on age, gender, skin tones, ethnicity, face shape, and skin types.

Locate Wheelchair Accessible Places & EV Stations

Google Maps brings new options for locating EV charging stations. EV owners can now search for charging stations that offer fast charging speeds and a variety of charging plug-ins.
Google Map’s “Accessible Places” feature is now available worldwide. You can search for locations that have wheelchair accessibility by enabling the accessible places feature in the settings menu. This feature was previously available in the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, and Japan.

Google Lens Translator Upgrading

An update to Lens AR Translate will be released later this year according to Google. This method uses the same artificial intelligence technology that is behind Pixel Magic Eraser to scan the original text and then redraw it. This update allows you to translate text on complex pictures or backgrounds. Instead of hiding the original text, Google uses AI-generated background to remove the original text and render the pixels below it, and then overlay the translated text over the image.
If you want to use the latest features, make sure to update the Google Maps app on your android device.
